Preppy Power

Friday, March 18, 2011

Preppy style has impacted interior and fashion design for decades.  Legendary designers establishing the look include Dorothy Draper and Lilly Pulitzer.  Today's design interpretations are led by style setters including Kate Spade and Jonathan Adler. The 21st century Preppy appeal continues to evolve in fresh and modern fabrics mixed with a contemporary edge, and clothing that incorporates bright color with classic design.  Recent publication news includes House Beautiful magazine declaring "Preppy Fabrics They're Back!" on the April cover and Virginia Living Magazine has a interactive online feature & magazine insert on preppy style -- Forever Prep.

The cult classic The Official Preppy Handbook sits proudly on my bookshelf and the cover art from its follow up, True Prep, is making an impact on current fashion designs -- Vineyard Vines, the preppy clothing company founded in the late 1990s, offers clothing & accessories with imagery lifted from the cover and shoe designer Stubbs & Wootton offers their take on the True Prep logo.

I am a little bias when it come to Preppy loyalty....  my alma mater's colors are Pink & Green.
