In Need of an Interesting Room Accessory? May I Suggest....

Friday, January 14, 2011

The internet has turned the antiques business upside down with its speed and accessibility to locate & purchase that "must have" object - whether it be a piece of furniture, lighting, or accessory - otherwise forgotten articles are now sought after & attainable treasures.  There are a couple of home design websites I look at on a regular basis for just this reason....  the shop owners turn up some really interesting items & are really great at posting pictures of new arrivals, keeping their sites fresh and updated.  Locally here in Atlanta, City Issue is a marvelous Mid Century Modern style store, open to the public, and offers an easy accessible website, keeping their current inventory on view with prices, measurements, condition, etc....  I also love Circa Who, a West Palm Beach, FL shop specializing in the Hollywood Regency style.  Circa Who does an excellent job of posting new arrivals daily, making it so fun to check back and see what design goodies they have uncovered.  I appreciate both stores ability to price their finds at a competitive level.  It makes business sense to continue to turn inventory at a smart price point, rather than price too high, and be holding onto objects for too long.

I also love to see what Chairloom is up to....  Owner & upholsterer Molly Worth transforms vintage antique furniture by applying fresh & contemporary fabrics to the frames.  Chairloom's Facebook page has an album of photos of all current items for sale - both upholstered & not yet upholstered furniture.  Be sure to check out the "After" photos of all of Chairloom's refurbished jewels.

Last, but not least, I can't shout to the hilltops loud enough about the joys of Craigslist....  not only for deals to be had, but think of the one less item you're rescuing from a landfill!  There is SO much great stuff on CL - honestly, everything needed for every aspect of your lifestyle.  Key Tips:  Bring Cash & Negotiate!
