Maggie Gyllenhaal | Vogue February 2011
Today's NY Times Arts section has given Maggie Gyllenhaal and cast a glowing review of their performances in the Chekhov play,
Three Sisters. Currently running off-Broadway at NYC's
Classic Stage Company down in the East Village, Gyllenhaal is joined on stage by an ensemble cast including husband Peter Sarsgaard, Jessica Hecht, Juliet Rylance, Josh Hamilton, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, to name a few. This is a second Chekhov collaboration for Gyllenhaal & Sarsgaard, having performed together back in 2009 in CSC's production of
Uncle Vanya. We had the great pleasure to attend that performance and were blown away by the intensity and emotion exuded by all the actors and its complement to the small intimate setting of the stage. Vogue magazine's February 2011 issue highlights Gyllenhaal as its "It Girl" and how can you disagree.... she seems to transition so effortlessly from period theater actress, to Hollywood starlet, to uber NYC chic girl-about-town, to casual hands-on Brooklyn mom to 4 year old daughter Ramona. Other memorable performances by Gyllenhaal for me include
Secretary (2002),
Mona Lisa Smile (2003), and as the ultimate earth mother in
Away We Go (2009).
