Up & Coming Restaurant News

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

Following yesterday's post, noteworthy restaurant news continues....  Using the opportunity of vacated commercial spaces and landlords's lowering the cost of rents to entice new tenants, chef/owners are expanding into new restaurant ventures. Click here for more from the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Ford Fry and Drew Belline's new Decatur restaurant, No. 246, will be serving upscale Italian dishes, including hand crafted pizzas made in their direct from Naples wood burning oven. They are taking over the space formerly held by Eurasia, located right off the Decatur Square.  An opening date is set for early May.

Ron Eyester and Jason Chenette didn't have to look too far for their next space.  In the next 4-6 weeks they will be opening The Family Dog, a neighborhood bar serving farm-to-table style pub food.  Its location is across the street from Rosebud, their restaurant in the heart of Morningside.  They acquired the space vacated by Pomodoro, and foresee the close proximity of the 2 spots to play off each other nicely.  A side note....  Rosebud offers a great week-end brunch, the best part being they accept reservations, which is almost unheard of for casual breakfast eateries.  Go & try.

Closer to our neck of the woods...  What seems to be a hard luck location in our Emory village, is once again getting a new tenant.  Sprouts Green Cafe has closed and opening in its place will Bad Dog Taqueria.  Owners Tracy Mitchell and Bardo Arroyave are expected to open their doors April 1st.  Crafting the menu, that will include a handful of signature tacos, is former executive chef of Osteria 832 (a simple, but very tasty Italian cafe in the VA-Highland neighborhood) Lis Hernandez. Check them out on Facebook.

Keeping a lookout for a possible second location is Decatur's beloved neighborhood restaurant, Watershed.  The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports that The Cheroff Group, Ltd is helping Watershed's owners in their search for a new space in Midtown or Buckhead.
