I am completely drawn to some of the new work by Atlanta based painter Winston Wiant. Wiant has taken a slight departure from her signature style of still life & landscape imagery and recently featured more contemporary and abstract pieces. See her current work above & below and click here to become a fan of Wiant's Facebook page.
The grounds of actress Amanda Peet's Hollywood Hills home are featured in the June 2012 issue of Vogue. Peet turned to landscape designer Miranda Brooks (read more about Brooks here from my previous post), in creating a lush garden sanctuary filled with floral fragrances to be shared & enjoyed by her husband and 2 daughters. Vogue also includes a couple of interior shots of Peet's home, which shows some fresh updates and design reworking since it was photographed for Domino Magazine back in DEC/JAN '08.
Check out the Domino photos of Peet's Entry/Stairway/Dining Room below right, compared to Vogue's inset photo on left.... Peet has redone the metalwork to the stair banister, added a runner, and switched out the light fixture. The table nestled in the corner remains the same. In the light filled eating area just beyond the arched hallway, the rug has been removed, the built-ins painted white, and the furnishings edited.
Furniture craftsman Capers Cauthen is featured in the June/July '12 issue of Garden & Gun magazine (shown above).... Capers has quickly earned a reputation for his custom designed tables handcrafted from reclaimed wood, sold through his James Island, SC based workshop, Landrum Tables. The G&G article mentions his client, interior designer Amelia Handegan, commissioned a table to be used as a kitchen island for her Folly Beach bungalow. Architectural Digest published photos of her 1940s beachfront home in their July 2011 issue and Capers' table holds center court in her kitchen. See Amelia's kitchen below and click here to see the rest of the house from my previous post....

Friend and noted interior designer Smith Hanes is responsible for the interiors of some of Atlanta's most sought after eateries. His overall style tends to take influence from natural materials, interesting accessories, and a specific color palette. Opening this Spring are 2 of his latest projects.... the redesign of Watershed, as it changes locale from Decatur to Brookwood Hills, and his 3rd collaboration with Chef Ford Fry, in Fry's soon to be opened (May 21), The Optimist.
Smith's gravitation towards restaurant design is an easy extension of his broad & seasoned career. Not only has he received recognition for his residential design projects (House Beautiful October 2010), he and his wife Alisa Barry are the owners of the specialty food company Bella Cucina Artful Food. Even in the early stages of their growing company, Smith's strong design vision emphasized the importance of beautiful packaging & the detailed look that Bella Cucina products are known for.
Check out photos below of the interior of The Optimist followed by info to attend an informal cocktail reception to meet and hear Smith talk about all of his design goings-on at Switch Modern on May 30.

The rain did not deter the energetic vibe of yesterday's Atlanta Food & Wine Festival.... We attended the Tasting Tents from 1:30-4:30 and was it ever brimming over with food & wine lusciousness!! This is the 2nd year for the festival, and our first time attending. In between sampling Southern inspired dishes and spirits, we spotted lots of Atlanta's food community in attendance. We got a chance to catch up with Kristen Hard from Cacao and Wes from Honeysuckle Gelato. Food favorites included Blackberry Farm's Meat & Cheese board, Duke's Mayonnaise Pimento Cheese, White Oak Kitchen's Fried Chicken, pretty much all of the BBQ dishes, and the Patron Tequila grapefruit margarita. In addition to the Tasting Tents, this 4 day event offered cooking classes, demonstrations, and private dinners, hosted by the country's top culinary talents. Be sure to put it on your calendar to attend next year!
Due to my hands being consumed with food & fare, the 1 or 2 photos I did get a chance to take, don't do the scene justice.... So watch the attached video below from last year's event to get the inside look.

Legendary hairdresser and iconic style setter Vidal Sassoon died yesterday, Wednesday, at the age of 84 at his Bel Air home. Sassoon credits the angles and lines of the forward thinking architecture from the mid century as an influence for his signature haircutting style. How fitting that he and wife Ronnie should surround themselves in a 1959 Richard Neutra designed home. The couple lovingly restored this architectural gem known as the "Singleton House", and its grounds and interiors were featured in the April 2011 issue of Architectural Digest magazine.... Images above & below followed by the trailer for Vidal Sassoon The Movie -- an intimate look at Sassoon's life and career.
