Aurora VA-Highland is Closing

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

As I approached Aurora Coffee's front door yesterday, posted on the clear glass was a rather large typed letter announcing the news that Aurora's VA-Highland location will be closing on May 21....  WHAT??!! Needless to say, I am CRUSHED! Aurora has been part of the neighborhood for 20 years (outlasting the Starbucks that came and went further on down N. Highland) and is truly a hub where you can find the greatest mix of patrons on any given day. I stop in at least 4 times a week and look forward to my cappuccino crafted by the skilled (and always nice) baristas. Aurora's Little Five Points location will continue to stay open, but I guess I am just so partial to VA-Highland, having first stopped in and tasted their coffee back in 1998. Read the announcement from Aurora's owners below....

When I walked in yesterday, I was greeted by Beth Binford, who works behind the counter but also is the owner of Strange Bird Designs....  You might recognize her from being featured through Scoutmob. Beth's handcrafted duct taped wallets are included in Scoutmob's Shoppe -- a locally sourced artisan driven marketplace. Her all-gold "Bling" duct tape wallet caught the eye of Mr.Ferguson, and I've included some of her additional designs below....
