A Nod to Design Style

Haven's Kitchen

I purchased a copy of Domino yesterday at the Whole Foods on Ponce and last night was spent reading the contents cover to cover. Included is a feature on Haven's Kitchen (posted previously about here + here) founder Ali Cayne and the interiors of her West Village townhouse.

Immediate first impressions of the home is how the space shares a design undercurrent with the interiors/finishes/furnishings (bold use of black, pops of yellow, subway tile detail, natural wood elements) of Haven's Kitchen (having had the opportunity to visit in December). But also, the overall style seems to be inspired/translate design cues from that of Jenna Lyons' former home in Park Slope (which was photographed for Domino back in November 2008). I've included below some side-by-side comparisons with Jenna Lyons' interiors and note the color palette, furnishings, and accessories.

*note the upholstery pieces, black & white elements, diamond motif rug, mirror & light fixture selections

Jenna Lyon's Dining Room (left) // Ali Cayne's Dining Room (right)
*note the straight back side chairs, refinished hardwood floors are the focal point with no rugs added, and graphic art work hung on the walls

Jenna Lyons' Bedroom (left) // Ali Cayne's Bedroom (right)
*note the dark walls, white headboard/bedding, and multi-arm chandelier

Jenna Lyons' Bath (left) // Ali Cayne's Bath (right)
*note the black surround claw foot tub & gold tone hardware, and basketweave design wood floor
