One Print

The family home shared by seasoned decorator Justine Cushing is featured in & on the cover of House Beautiful's April '14 issue (images above & below)....  The common thread tying together mixed & matched pieces and the scaled down rooms of this coastal bungalow is Cushing's clever decision of using one print throughout, Bowood by Colefax & Fowler. She opts for the classic chintz on upholstery items, window treatments, in the bath & bedrooms. Cushing also applied this technique in additional cottage spaces on her family's compound, which was photographed for House Beautiful back in 2007. Perhaps this design strategy takes roots in the style of Parish-Hadley, the decorating firm that Cushing worked for post college....  Regardless, this seemingly simplistic approach utilized in an overall design scheme yields big impact with a timeless appeal, prompting today's taste-makers to continue the tradition (photos below).
