Review : Palm Beach Chic

Monday, October 19, 2015

Perhaps no one better than Jennifer Ash Rudick, author of the recently released hardcover book Palm Beach Chic (cover above), to delve into an intimate look at the many facets that define the interior design styles of quintessential Palm Beach homes. Her upbringing within this barrier island, located on Florida's east coast splitting Lake Worth and the Atlantic Ocean, and seasoned career as a writer for lifestyle & shelter publications, underscores her appreciation and knowledge of how the variety of Palm Beach's revered architecture has influenced not trendy, but timeless design. Partnering with photographer Jessica Klewicki Glynn, the pair turn their focus to the grounds & interiors of 25 residences, revealing the unparalleled appeal of a magnificent mix of historic beachside estates to garden covered cottages. These homes speak for themselves - completely at ease within their surroundings and confidently representing their owners' distinctive design point of view.

My take away impressions from pouring over the 400+ rich color photographs and reading Rudick's highly insightful text, is how the natural landscape serves to inspire the interior design of every home featured. Not only reflected through applying color -- blues are lifted from the water & sky, greens echo the hearty tropical vegetation, and a rainbow of color accents are mirroring the ubiquitous blooms -- but the year-round outdoor livability shapes how the rooms function as lively entertaining spaces or private retreats for the homeowners.
