New Work

I have written two home tour articles for the special Summer issue of Cottage White, out on newsstands now.....  I've spoken with blogger & artist Haley Estes about creating her creamy color palette and patina rich signature interior design style. And, I take a look at a renovated Minnesota cottage home that infuses architectural & decorative details reflective of the homeowners' love for the European countryside.

Hardman Court

Friday, March 18, 2016

Hardman Court, located off of Pharr Road in Buckhead (towards the Piedmont end), is truly one of the last "original" Garden Hills neighborhood streets where most of the period bungalow homes are occupied by local small business owners, providing a glimpse to a time when Buckhead was once a charming village. Fingers crossed, this dead end street will continue to remain that way!

Pictured above is the residence of Pam Sessions and Don Donnelly, owners of Hedgewood Homes. Pam and Don initially purchased on Hardman for Hedgewood's offices. When the home next door came on the market (above), they purchased it for themselves. Garden Hills historic covenants presented some design limitations to the couple when embarking on a remodel. However, those challenges turned into creative decorative elements applied to the exterior and interior. The completed renovation above and additional photos below.....

Interior designer Barbara Westbrook has also put her stamp on Hardman Court. She purchased an original bungalow on Hardman in 2007 for the offices of her firm, Westbrook Interiors (exterior above). Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles featured Barbara's completed transformation from period residence to her 5-room office. Feeling down about Downton ending tonight.....   And no more Matthew Goode?? Well don't despair.....  Watch the trailer below for his upcoming TV program, shot alongside with actor & friend Matthew Rhys, The Wine Show. The pair have filmed 13 episodes from a quintessential Italian countryside villa, discussing and tasting wines from all over the world. The Wine Show will be airing in the UK in the Spring, and hopefully will be shown here stateside at some point soon after -- fingers crossed! Until then, enjoy the trailer.....

March 3rd

Thursday, March 3, 2016

It's One Year Later............    Today marks the day the PREVIOUS Board of Directors and President of my alma mater, Sweet Briar College, TRIED to shut down our beloved school.

The one thing that is bittersweet (well many things) about this date, is that according to my 2015 yearly horoscope outlook from Elle UK magazine (written by the Saturn Sisters), as a Gemini, MARCH 3 was to be my LUCKIEST DAY OF THE YEAR !!!  I circled and starred the day on my calendar.....  Went to sleep on the 2nd, knowing that when I woke up, the 3rd would finally be here and I was ready for whatever was coming my way !!

WELL, the day began like any other. But, at 12:15pm, my phone started to light up with text messages from classmates saying they were hearing rumors that Sweet Briar is closing.....  Wait, W H A T ??!!  NO WAY.....  Absolutely, No way this could be true.....  I went to the website, and it was DOWN -- I immediately assumed the site was hacked and this was a cruel joke.....

By 12:45, I'm calling classmates to see what is happening.....

At 1pm, a mass email was sent from FORMER President Jimmy Jones, announcing the FORMER Board of Directors unanimous decision to close Sweet Briar College.

Well, if you follow my blog, you know what happened next (read more from my 3/12/15 post).....  Within 48 hours, Sweet Briar students, faculty, staff, alumnae & friends of the college, galvanized our efforts to REVERSE THE DECISION.....

And you know what, WE DID !!!!

*The silver lining -- March 3rd DID turn out to be my LUCKIEST DAY.....

For me, witnessing and working with all who are involved with Saving Sweet Briar -- meeting new alumnae & re-connecting with classmates I hadn't seen in years, reaching out to local business owners to help our cause -- has reinforced the power, passion and enduring spirit that each of us possess. It became pure joy to watch the entire Sweet Briar community rise and mobilize in a collective grassroots movement to keep the gates of our outstanding college OPEN for future generations of women !!
