On The Market

Thursday, September 22, 2016

Real estate is a reoccurring theme throughout my blog posts.....  I've written previously about preserving period homes, published homes listed for sale and highlighting terrific before & after projects. Well today, it's my turn to talk about our home in the Druid Hills neighborhood of town hitting the market.

We have decided to sell our home within the Emory Grove hamlet after 11 years of ownership. Emory Grove is an absolutely charming neighborhood, consisting of 2 private/hidden parks -- one with a playground & pavilion area and one with a tennis court, playing field & our Community Garden. It's within walking distance to Emory University and the CDC, and part of the highly desirable Fernbank School district.

We purchased the home in 2005 and completely redesigned the interior to reflect a more current style. The spaces have been thoughtfully reworked to accommodate the 2 bedroom and 1 bath floor plan, even adding a separate water closet within the bathroom. There is a detached 2 car garage and additional artists studio space beyond.

*Couple of design details to note.....  Mr. Ferguson designed & built the media cabinet in the Living Room (to the right of the fireplace), he built me the chunky bookshelves (due to my book obsession) and he designed & built the floating bathroom vanity. Also, many of the trees and plants around the exterior are from the Trees Atlanta annual tree/plant sale.....  And the large River Birch Tree (which when planted was much smaller) by the back deck was given to me 10 years ago by my mentor, a noted American antiques dealer.

At Auction * Brunk

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

Brunk Auctions, located in Asheville, NC, is holding an incredible sale over the next three days -- 9/15 - 9/17. I've included some lots that caught my eye from the catalog.....  Buying at auction is a great way to acquire pieces at fair market value.

Pick up a copy of the Fall/Winter Cottage White magazine and check out the 2 articles I have written for the issue. I take a closer look at the 'French Farmhouse Meets Coastal Charm' style of homeowner Cami from the DIY blog Tidbits.....  And get an insiders guide into creating rooms that reflect the signature style of home decor blogger Deborah McDonald of B Vintage, a design she defines as Industrial layered with touches of Romance.

Miranda Brooks

Thursday, September 8, 2016

You might be familiar with Miranda Brooks (pictured) from my previous posts, read more here and here.....  She is an exceptional landscape designer, responsible for some of the most coveted private gardens around the globe. T Magazine recently published photos and details of her work for longtime friend and client, Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine. Over the last 20 years, Miranda has refined the 40 acres that comprises Ms. Wintour's Hamptons, NY home into the most lush splendor of delicious floral scents and storybook greenery. Check out the additional images below.....

*FYI, my 3rd most read post in nearly 7 years of blogging is the piece I posted on Miranda when she married her husband, Bastien Halard, featured in Vogue 8/10. The pair were married on the grounds of a friend's home.....  Although not identified in the article, perhaps it was Ms. Wintour's residence.
