'Signature Spaces'

"It's very important to establish the difference between interior design and simply furnishing a house. We like to create the bones, to think about the interior architecture, how everything works together. After all of that is thought-through, then you can decorate."
--Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen

Distinctive and defining style statements from interior designers Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen, of the award winning firm Paolo Moschino for Nicholas Haslam Limited, serve to set a clear point of view as they navigate a range of client projects throughout the globe. The pair reveal these fundamental core principals in their premiere hardcover book, Signature Spaces: The Well-Traveled Interiors of Paolo Moschino & Philip Vergeylen. While their design declarations are seemingly simple and straightforward, in contrast, their finished rooms are anything but! Over 200 of the book's awe inspiring pages are layered with iconic quotes from legendary artists, authors & tastemakers and highlight the firm's interiors that echo an appeal of lavish yet livable, classic yet current aesthetic. It's the self-professed "twist" of the style spectrum that Moschino and Vergerlen seek to achieve.....

"What we like in interiors is some order with an unexpected twist. We try to avoid rooms that look staged, and are always looking for an element of surprise and humour."
--Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen

Additional info to note, I was quite surprised that the book's cover didn't feature a glossy image (as most interior design books opt to), rather a matte finish is selected for the book jacket. But, after reading more about Moschino and Vergeylen's style, I interpret this decision as perhaps an unexpected design detail indicative of their work, a subtle nod to their vision & translation of refined sophistication. Also, if you are attending High Point Market, Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen will be signing copies of Signature Spaces at the Currey & Company showroom, Monday April 24, 3-5pm.

*Images from Signature Spaces included.....   I have the Vendome Press to thank for extending me a copy to preview.
