Knoll Red Nail Polish
The Knoll furniture rep was by my husband's commercial interior design office yesterday, dropping off among other things, samples of Knoll's nail polish, in their signature Red color. Never one to keep gifts hidden for too long, my sweet husband gave the bottle to me last night -- the perfect color to kick off the holiday season! Check out below some of Knoll's furniture upholstered in this vibrant shade as well as Harper's Bazaar magazine's Red Hot round up of dresses from their December '10 issue.

Magazine Editors Play Musical Chairs
Monday, December 6, 2010
The last couple of years haven't been easy on the newspaper & magazine market.... not only with the economy trailing, but internet accessibility for information is leaving publications by the wayside. I still prefer our magazines in hard copy forms, and get giddy when they have arrived in our mailbox. One reoccurring theme I have noticed in more recent issues is a sort of Editor shuffle at some of our favorite home design & lifestyle mags.
In 2008 Eleanor Griffin, then editor of Cottage Living Magazine (its last issue was Nov/Dec '08 ), left to assume the same position at Southern Living Magazine. As of this summer, she was promoted to vice president of Southern Living brand development. Griffin's vacated position was filled by Lindsay Bierman, who had succeeded Griffin at Cottage Living a month before it was shuttered, and then was offered the editor position at Coastal Living Magazine. Bierman is once again filling Griffin's shoes, accepting the editor position at Southern Living. The beloved Domino Magazine was run by founding editor Deborah Needleman, but in January 2009, it closed its doors, and Needleman has since been tapped for editor at WSJ - Wall Street Journal Magazine. Additional Domino alums include, Dara Caponigro, who has since been hired as the new editor of Veranda Magazine and Michelle Adams, who launched Lonny Magazine, an online publication, in the Fall of 2009. Stephen Drucker, formerly the editor at House Beautiful, has taken the helm at Town & Country Magazine and Margaret Russell, longtime editor at Elle Decor, assumes the counter part role at Architectural Digest.
For me, change is always a good thing, so having a little position shake-up makes for fresh design ideas and renewed energy. Keep a lookout for this talented pool of visual & artistic editors to successfuly carry magazine publication into the next decade.

Spotted ~ Design Decor @Neiman Marcus Last Call
Friday, December 3, 2010
OK, have heard about but never been to the Neiman Marcus Last Call store up I-85 outside of Atlanta. I was headed in that direction earlier today to meet a client and found myself arriving ahead of our scheduled meeting time. Noticed the Neiman Marcus Last Call not too far away and figured I'd run in for a quick look to see what all the hubbubs about.... Not only was it packed with clothes, but they offer a large home furnishings section as well -- complete with sofas, chairs, lamps, mirrors, and accessories. I spotted 2 items that could add a little design spice to any room.... a pair of metal Moroccan inspired end tables ($325 each), and a reclaimed wood coffee table with round glass top ($458). The bonus, both items were an additional 25% Off!

Lowcountry Originals ~ Nature Inspired Light Fixtures

Garden & Gun Magazine, Dec 10/Jan 11
Loving the chandelier featured in Garden & Gun's Dec 10/Jan 11 issue... selected as their Made in the South Award Winner for Home -- Lowcountry Originals is designing light fixtures with native materials in mind. Creators of Lowcountry Originals and longtime friends Becky Brackett & Libby Boyden found themselves coming up empty in their search to find an interesting light fixture that didn't look too manufactured or that wasn't saturated in the design market. Taking inspiration from their Southern heritage, Becky & Libby turned to their natural surroundings, deciding to create light fixtures that incorporated unique elements & details, including oyster shells, driftwood, marsh reeds, rustic patina metal, and nubby burlap. The overall result is truly wonderful -- earthy & organic, but with a classic design sensibility & structure. Click here for more info and check out a couple more Lowcountry Originals light fixtures that caught my eye.

Modern Craft >>> Emily Newdow
Wednesday, December 1, 2010
Check out the craft work of friend Emily Newdow. Emily's artisan pillows & accessories stitch together a style of whimsical boudoir chic with a twist of playful personality. All pieces are custom designed and hand crafted, working with vintage remnants found at tag sales and discontinued fabric samples. Having the desire to sew, but no machine to work with, Emily's thrift store purchase of a $25 Singer sewing machine less than a year ago is what inspired her to begin her custom creations. Her artistry must be in the family genes... according to Emily's grandmother, Emily's great-grandmother was known to be an accomplished seamstress. Currently, you can find Emily's pillows, purses, and keepsakes at Community, an Athens, GA boutique and for any ordering information for custom designs you can contact her directly -- newdow@gmail.com.
