Lemlem > Fashion Forward Designs Rooted in the Past

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Liya Kebede - model and humanitarian activist, now adds fashion designer to her resume.  A native of Ethiopia, Liya sought to highlight the traditional textiles and weave techniques of her country that seemed to be losing their need in the marketplace.  In 2007, Liya launched Lemlem, translated in Amharic as "to bloom", incorporating the color, design and patterns of Ethiopian fabrics into modern & fresh children's clothes and accessories.  Today, she has expanded the Lemlem line to include women's fashions as well.  Lemlem's lightweight handwoven cotton and comfortable styles are the perfect combination for cool summer dressing.  Included below are excerpts of my recent sightings of Liya & Lemlem.
