A Vintage Modern Cape Cod Retreat

Friday, May 27, 2011

Throughout our stormy night here in Atlanta last night, I was finally able to read cover to cover the Travel Summer 2011 insert from last weekend's NY Times.  I am in love with a coastal getaway featured out on the Cape in the town of Wellfleet, MA.  In 1948, developers & designers Nathaniel Saltonstall and Oliver Morton established the Mayo Hill Colony Club, a exclusive private club and secluded retreat consisting of 10 seasonal Bauhaus-style residences overlooking Wellfleet Harbor.  This lush landscape compound catered to scholars, artisans, and celebrities of the day, all seeking a quiet refuge in the midst of forward thinking design.  Present owner Eleanor Stefani, along with her now late husband, Loris Stefani, purchased the retreat in 1963 from Mr. Saltonstall, and renamed it The Colony. Currently, you can rent these homes by the week or for a 3-day minimum.  Click here for more from the NY Times.
