David Netto with wife Elizabeth and their daughter Madelyn

An article in The Wall Street Journal offers an alternative to air & car excursion with a refreshingly fun railroad travel tale, written by designer David Netto.  Netto explains that he was won over with traveling by train after winter weather in Chicago caused him major delays in returning home to Los Angeles.  In a split decision, he booked a private room on the next Amtrak train leaving the Windy City bound for sunny LA -- and the adventure forever changed him.  Netto's WSJ article includes the do's & don'ts to navigating a successful & comfortable cross country rail ride -- cabin selection, food options, etc -- as well as pointing out the green benefits of leaving the planes & cars behind.  His favorite travel routes include:  The Silver Meteor > from NY to Charleston, SC; The Coast Starlight > from LA. to Oregon or Washington; and The Lake Shore Limited > from Chicago to NY.

I have kept the images of Netto's Silver Lake home in LA, published in Vogue magazine from 2008.  The 1961 mid century modern home was designed by renowned architect Richard Neutra. Netto's choice of furnishings and finishes not only continue in the original style vein of this iconic home design, but also blend skillfully a refreshed contemporary sensibility.  Check out below....
