Chez Panisse was established in 1971 by revered chef Alice Waters, with a desire to cook & serve food that was in season and grown locally.  Ms. Waters continues to be outspoken about supporting local farmers and choosing to eat foods when they are at their best.  She is leading the charge in emphasizing the importance of gardening in all our lives....  the joy & satisfaction of eating straight from your home garden, as well as the unlimited learning possibilities for children who are growing fruits & veggies in school yard gardens across the country. Through Ms. Waters' efforts, Michelle Obama took notice and established a vegetable garden on the lawn of the White House.

I feel lucky to say that I have had the opportunity to dine at Chez Panisse and it is definitely worth a visit if you should find yourself in the San Francisco/Berkeley area....  In fact, Open Table states that there is a table for 2 available at 9:15 tonight. A must stop is also Ms. Waters' lovely & quaint breakfast/lunch cafe, Cafe Fanny, named for her daughter.  On our visit, the cappucinno, homemade granola, and soft farm eggs on thick slices of artsian bread was unbeliveable.
