Franz Schneider

We were shocked and saddened to learn that Atlanta architect Franz Schneider passed away unexpectedly over the weekend....   We have had the great fortune of knowing Franz for more than a decade, and Mr. Ferguson counts him as a dear friend. The photo above was taken last summer while the two were having lunch together at The Optimist....

Whether you realized it or not, you've probably passed by one of Franz's designs, as he built residences in a number of pocket neighborhoods around town -- a cluster of townhomes in Brookhaven and Lenox Mall area, a private residence for one of his sisters in Peachtree Hills and another for a sister in Virginia Highland. Franz also concentrated his designs in the Berkeley Park neighborhood, a stone's throw away from what would become the bustling Westside shopping/dining district. A number of years ago, he had the vision that this area would be on the rise, and custom designed/built a house for himself. This eventually led to Franz buying up the dilapidated bungalows surrounding him, and replacing them with his signature style of forward thinking contemporary architecture....  Photos below are examples of his work.
