Open windows to take in the salty sea air.....  Fragrant blooms spilling over trellises and mossy stone paths.....  Keep a copy close by of Out East: Houses and Gardens of the Hamptons and throughout the year revel in instant access at your fingertips to the effortless ease that defines coastal summer living. A companion piece of sorts to her 2015 published Palm Beach Chic (read my review here), author Jennifer Ash Rudick sets her sights in this newly released hardcover book on the cluster of villages & hamlets that collectively comprise a locale positioned out on the South Fork of Long Island's east end, simply referred to as the Hamptons. Surrounded by water, residents enjoy the calm shores of the Peconic Bay on one side and the white capped waves of the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

Jennifer's introduction to the area began in the mid-1980s, with a stay at a family friend's East Hampton home. As time has passed, she has developed an intimate familiarity with the east end, coupled with an understanding & appreciation for the range of architecture - cottage to contemporary - represented throughout the landscape. From this framework, Jennifer treats us readers to "her" tour of the Hamptons.....  A highly personalized view into the defining homes & gardens and the signature styles of the owners that occupy them.

"When something is personal and practical, more often than not it will also be beautiful and its appeal will stand the test of time. Like their owners, each of these houses exudes a depth of understanding mixed with design intuition."
--Jennifer Ash Rudick

Jennifer turned to photographer Tria Giovan to capture over 30 select homes and gardens that grace the pages of Out East, shedding light onto a treasure trove of design inspiration from some of today's top talents. Including my favorites Edwina von GalDavid Netto, Daniel Romualdez and Tom Scheerer. I highly recommend adding Out East to your design library. Images featured below.....
