The Cookie Studio

Friday, May 31, 2013

My longtime favorite go-to cookie shop, The Cookie Studio, recently relocated from their original location (occupied for 6+ years) on the Decatur/Avondale Estates line up to the Buckhead neighborhood. I stopped in yesterday to check out the new space and get my cookie fix....  my pictures below....

The Cookie Studio has completely transformed what was previously a pizza place. The interior is bright and very spacious and provides the much need space The Cookie Studio owners were in search of to continue to grow their business. The kitchen is large & open and has been designed to accommodate bar seating with a front row view to the all the baking goodness. To the left of the kitchen is a private dining area that can be reserved for gatherings/parties. Similar to the old locale, the cookies are presented in a glass case for patrons to choose their favorites, but the new space affords ample cafe style seating to sit & savour. There have been some changes to the menu, which now offers breakfast items (casseroles, granola, & fresh yogurt), as well as the addition of an espresso bar, that serves Intelligentsia Coffee. The exterior provides a spacious covered deck with tables/chairs & bench seating. My take home cookies included a Chocolate Chip, a Pecan Chocolate Chip, a Chocolate Walnut, and a Coffee Toffee -- all EXCELLENT! The Cookie Studio is located on Pharr Road (at the end closer to Peachtree) and is open Monday - Friday 7am-7pm / Saturday 8am-5pm / Closed Sunday. Also to be noted, a portion of The Cookie Studio's proceeds goes to The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children.

Christy Turlington

Thursday, May 30, 2013

FINALLY! Thank you Harper's Bazaar for featuring a working model (rather than a celebrity actress) on the June/July cover of your magazine....  And its supermodel Christy Turlington, who at 44 continues to set the bar high on all aspects of living well. In the midst of her 30+ year modeling career, Christy is wife to writer/director/actor Ed Burns, mother to their 2 children, graduate of NYU, and founder of Every Mother Counts, "a campaign to end preventable deaths caused by pregnancy and childbirth around the world".

The photo above is the cover shot for Harper's Bazaar magazine subscribers (which I received), and below is the cover currently out on newsstands. Read more from the featured article here....  Plus watch the attached videos I've included below....  The first one includes Christy discussing Every Mother Counts and the second (one of my favorites) is her appearance (alongside a fabulous group of supermodels Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, and Cindy Crawford) in the George Michael video Freedom! 90.

FILM >>> Before Midnight

Tuesday, May 21, 2013

Before Midnight, the 3rd installment of director Richard Linklater's kismet tale, opens Friday May 24. Actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy reprise their roles and are also credited along with Linklater, as the writers of the film. The past weekend's NY Times Magazine had a great interview with Julie Delpy, and last night, we watched the trio appear together for a round table discussion on Charlie Rose.

I plan to be re-watching the first two films, Before Sunrise (1995) and Before Sunset (2004), in anticipation of this weekend's release....  Trailer for Before Midnight is attached below....

Jumping off from my earlier post on Egyptian Chandeliers and style source antiques dealer Liza Sherman....  Elle Decor featured the interiors of Ms. Sherman's 1,900 square foot NYC apartment in their November 2011 issue...  Check out the photos below (and a snippet of a Egyptian Chandelier hanging over her dining table)....

Julianna's Coffee & Crepes

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

On our Sunday errand run to Inman Park for pet food (to Inman Park Pet Works), we drove past a small storefront space that has been occupied at one point or another through the years with different small businesses, and most recently, was just a storage space for the owner. The space, which has been grandfathered in for commercial use, is ground level, with the owner's original bungalow home attached above.

I immediately noticed the bright colored sign, Julianna's Coffee & Crepes, hanging out front was a new addition....  We stopped in to check out the details & sample the goods. Open for about 2 weeks, owner Andrew (who has named the business in honor of his mother) was super nice in giving us some background info, particularly his desire to bring crepes to the Atlanta neighborhood following a trip to San Francisco and noting their popularity. Julianna's menu offers a small selection of both savory & sweet crepes and brewed Batdorf & Bronson Coffee....  If in the Inman Park neighborhood, make a date to stop by....

Andrew's crepe making station is placed streetside at the front windows

Kathryn M. Ireland

Friday, May 10, 2013

The British born/California based interior designer Kathryn M. Ireland has recently launched her custom fabric collection for Scalamandre.... Plus she is the featured model for the ad campaign (above). Kathryn has chosen to name each print by paying tribute to different homes she has lived in throughout the years and/or homes she has been inspired by. One such fabric, Libby Ranch, takes its name from Kathryn's former residence in Ojai, CA. The ranch's current owner is actress Reese Witherspoon, who has the majestic property on the market. For more, check out the article in the April issue of Architectural Digest and read my previous post here, highlighting the interiors of Libby Ranch.

Kathryn's design work can be seen currently at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in NYC, which is now open to the public through June 4th. She has been put to task in furnishing the Master Bedroom, and incorporates her signature Scalamandre fabric throughout -- note the stunning & adorned Anglo-Indian 4 poster bed....

Kathryn has been apart of the successful Bravo TV show Million Dollar Decorators....  Prior to that appearance, I remember seeing her as she helped out friend Ina Garten in an episode of the Barefoot Contessa -- prepping the table for a surprise dinner at the beach!.... Watch the video below....
