Woody Allen in NYC

Saturday, February 25, 2012

(left to right) Owen Wilson, Carla Bruni, and Woody Allen

In anticipation of the Oscars happening tomorrow night, I'm including the charming interiors of Best Director nominee Woody Allen's NYC home. Allen is nominated for his lovely film Midnight in Paris (seen on the set above), which is also up for Best Picture. His Upper East Side home was designed by Stephen Shadley and featured in the November 2008 issue of Architectural Digest magazine. Following the photos, watch the attached video, 12 Questions with Woody Allen, filmed at his desk in the master bedroom.

Style Setter >>> Jacqueline deMontravel

Friday, February 24, 2012

Where to begin in describing my dear and long time family friend Jacqueline deMontravel.... Simply put she is a Style Setter, moving effortlessly from one design role to the next. She currently serves as the editor of Romantic Homes magazine, while also adding author, photographer, stylist, and designer to her credits. Jacqueline's recently published design book, HERS: Design with a Feminine Touch, is a testament to these honed skills. I asked her what was the inspiration for the book's content and her reply: "The theme generated out of a desire/need for a woman to have an area that is solely hers, a place that is both feminine and modern. Not a lot of chintz, and pillows and mirrors. We do like great design but something that speaks to today's design."

Ebb Tide

If you are out in the Laguna Beach, CA area and looking for an unique alternate in hotel accommodations, check out the 4 beach cottages that Jacqueline and her husband own that serve as vacation rentals. Jacqueline has decorated each one (Ebb Tide pictured above & below) and as she describes "there are Indian block print linens on the beds in soft pastels, wicker furniture in unexpected shades of bottle green." Her signature touches of interesting & found accessories mixed with comfortable furnishings, provide a peaceful and relaxing backdrop to beach side living.  Click here for rental info.

Local Art ~ The Freedom Hand

On my way to Buckhead yesterday to see a client, just off of Piedmont Road, in what was once the old Home Depot/Expo parking lot, this giant art install was going up. The Home Expo building is now occupied by Passion City Church, who has erected this sculpture, The Freedom Hand, as their symbol to highlight slavery that still exists all over the world. Their campaign, 72 Days For Freedom, launches on February 27.

Tory Burch At Home

Tory Burch -- Photographed for Town & Country by Douglas Friedman

We were treated to a snippet of the interiors of fashion designer Tory Burch's Southampton residence (as seen above) when she was featured in and on the the cover of the September 2010 issue of Town & Country magazine. But, Vogue magazine includes an intimate look of her home and family life in the March 2012 issue (as seen below) -- pick up a copy for more. The interior design of Tory's classic 1929 estate was a collaborative effort including friends Daniel Romualdez and Eve Hood. Romualdez is also responsible for the interiors of Aerin Lauder's Aspen getaway home, featured in November '11 issue of Vogue, which I posted on my blog here. Don't miss out on watching the very personal and reflective video of Tory's "Love Letter" to the City of New York, attached below.

Local Artist >>> Michelle Armas

I can't get enough of local Atlanta artist Michelle Armas....  I included one of her paintings on my Valentine's Day post, loving her imagery technique of working abstract brush strokes with bold color onto her canvas. Included below are a selection of Michelle's recent works currently available. If a custom piece is out of your price range, check out Michelle's 2012 signed calendars featuring her Trellus painting -- click here to order.

Take Me To >>> Haven's Kitchen

Friday, February 17, 2012

Haven's Kitchen is my dream project....  recently opened in a former original carriage house in the Chelsea neighborhood of NYC, owner Alison Schneider has brought together my passion for food & entertaining under one roof. In the multi level building, she has designed her space to offer cooking classes, a supper club, a private event area, and kitchen shop - complete with coffee, pastries, tabletop, and pantry needs for sale - plus a rooftop garden will open this Spring! Many thanks goes to NY Magazine's article for turning me onto Haven's Kitchen.... It is on my list of places to try the next time I am home to CT and a train ride away from NYC.

Ali Wentworth / DC to NYC

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Ali Wentworth -- In NYC, Architectural Digest MAR '12 (above ) and in DC, Elle Decor MAY '09 (below)

Having recently written a post on Ali Wentworth, including photos from Elle Decor of her Washington, DC home from May '09, I was excited to see the interiors of her new NYC apartment featured in the March '12 issue of Architectural Digest. In the AD article, Ali describes packing up key pieces from her Georgetown Greek Revival residence to be reworked into her Upper East Side flat, decorated by interior designer Michael S. Smith.

I've pointed out below some of Ali's treasured items photographed in her DC home and now seen in her NYC one.

DC Entry (above) and NYC Entry & Dining Room (below) -- notice the Lucian Freud Drawing, decorative Stone on Wood Pedestal, and Artwork on the staircase

DC Living Room (above) and NYC Living Room (below) -- notice the landscape painting hung on a wall is now positioned over the fireplace
